While there is a plethora of choices for physical therapy and chiropractic care, there is only one local office that provides both services. For nearly three years, Bodyworx Physical Therapy & Chiropractic Wellness Center has successfully offered this combination to their patients.“Generally, these two fields don’t get along,” said Dr. Brad Profitt, co-owner with partners Neil Evans and Jeremy Stephenson.Often, manipulation is not provided during physical therapy. So, a benefit of having them together includes the ability to offer manipulation if needed. “Both are musculoskeletal providers and are meant to relieve people’s pain,” explained Profitt. “Our tag line is ‘Feel … Move … Live … Better,’ and movement is our medicine.” “Think of us as mechanics for the human machine,” Profitt said. “Our goal is to fine-tune it and optimize its performance.”In the practice, they use cutting-edge, evidence-based musculoskeletal care. It helps having two of the partners instructing at the university level — Profitt at Marshall University and Evans at Ohio University Athens. “With both of us teaching physical therapy programs, we’re privy to the latest practices. So, we share it with our students and use it in the office,” Profitt said.Another unique aspect of Bodyworx is that there are no assistants. “You see the chiropractor or the physical therapist throughout your term of treatment,” said Profitt. “Although sometimes you might see all three of us. We consult with each other a lot.” While they see many post-op patients and those in pain, the group works in preventive care aswell. Through a grant with FIVCO, they provide evidence-based exercises for fall-risk prevention in senior centers within the five-county area. A “Steady & Strong” exercise class is also offered in the office for seniors who want to maintain their independence. For the younger population, the practice offers the “TIPTOP” program in their private gym. “This stands for Training Injury Prevention to Optimize Performance,” Profitt explained. “It’s like giving your car extra horsepower. It helps them physically perform better in their sport and prevents likelihood of injury.”Patti Reaves, office manager for the practice, is not just an employee; she is a big fan. “These guys are awesome,” she said. “They don’t treat only the body; they treat the whole patient and work to help them feel better mentally.““This is really our mission field,” Profitt said. “Our work is based on our Christian faith. If you’ll notice, the X in the logo for Bodyworx is actually a cross. We take our responsibility to do good by and for, people seriously.”Mayor of Raceland Tony Wilson quickly became a fan of Bodyworx when he was referred to them by a friend as he was preparing for a knee replacement.Mayor Tony’s Testimony: I had my surgery on Thursday, which meant I would be out on Friday. The surgeon didn’t want me to wait until after the weekend to begin therapy, and Bodyworx offered to come in on Saturday and get the therapy started. I was impressed right away. They are very thorough. They sit down with you, examine your wholebody and look at everything that’s going on with it. They score it and come up with a personalized action plan. You’re with the same therapist through the whole thing, which is great. This is the most personalized therapy I’ve ever had. They’re very engaging. They take your mind off it, make you laugh, and you feel like they’re family. Jeremy is my therapist, and he schedules at my convenience to make sure I get the most out of each session. You feel valued there. Your success is their success. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.––Mayor Tony Wilson
