When you take a trip to the Portsmouth area, you’ll find established businesses and some new ones that hone in on the market and demand. Whatever you are looking for, you can find it in Portsmouth.
Morgan Brothers Jewelry
If you want fine jewels, then Morgan Brothers Jewelers, Inc. should be one of your first stops.
Rick and Mark Morgan own the family business that opened in 1948 right after World War II. The company is located downtown at 739 Fifth Street, and has stayed successful for more than 70 years because of one focus … trust.
“It’s just something that was instilled in us as kids and that was to always do the right thing, especially when it comes to the customer,” Rick said. “We pride ourselves on outstanding customer service. When a person comes in the door, they won’t have to deal with large corporations. They deal with us. And over the decades, we have so many return customers who we think of as family.”
Customers can find the best quality of men’s and women’s jewelry in the showroom and always a friendly face behind the counter. That is one of the qualities that has kept Morgan Brothers Jewelers, Inc. in Portsmouth for more than seven decades.
“When we started, there were seven jewelry stores in town,” Rick added. “Now it’s just us. We’ve survived because we have quality jewelry, the best customer service, and we are civic minded. We give back in the community and show our faces and help out. That’s what community is all about. We’ve been blessed and we like to spread it around.”
After you have purchased your bling, you may want to take an adventure and see the sights around Portsmouth.
River City Adventure Company
Rachel Gray, the co-owner of River City Adventure Company, said there is a large and growing population of people who love the outdoors, especially bicycling.
You’ll find the coolest outdoor bikes, running equipment, camping gear, sunglasses, kid’s bikes, skateboards, kayak rentals, and more, at the company.
“We were going to Columbus several times a month to find what we have now,” Rachel said. “That’s why a place like this makes sense because a lot of people here in Southern Ohio love to be outside and bike. Plus, we have the best natural resources, too.”
The location is perfect on the west side of the Bonneyfiddle District at 201 Second Street. The store is across from Front Street near the new bike path.
“It’s right on the way toward Shawnee State Forest,” Rachel added. “We are new and still trying to get the word out. Our goal is to be the adventure store in the Tri-state.”
Rachel Gray and Heith Gray own the store, which opened in March of 2022.
At Amelia Gray, you’ll be treated like a queen … or a king… and enjoy a five-star salon and spa experience.
Tarrah Bouts opened the store in August 2015 and just moved into a large facility at 2034 11th Street across from Burger King.
“Our secret is that we know our customers and I love data,” Tarrah said. “We look at the average income in Scioto County and base our prices around that. We also look at data when it’s time to hire and what items to keep on the shelf. It’s always moving, and we stay on top of that.”
She makes smart financial decisions and loves for her customers to have face-to-face interactions with the staff. “We want to give them attention and the best affordable luxury experience that they can have.
“Whether you are looking for specialized skincare, acne treatment, brow enhancement, lash enhancement, facial or body waxing, massage therapy or special event makeup, we can do that.”
Amelia Gray also offers a bridal service equipped with an expert to help you with your hair and makeup on the big day.
The number one goal for her team of licensed estheticians, hair stylists, massage therapists and makeup artists is to help you maintain a gorgeous and modern appearance that fits your lifestyle.
The spa is open seven days a week and can easily fit you in for an appointment. Amelia Gray has a comprehensive website that lists all products and services.
“We have about 20 employees,” Tarrah added. “We can juggle around because time with family is important.”
